Understanding Tax Collection

COUNTY TAXPAYERS NOTICE

The 2009 tax year begins Thursday, October 1, 2009, and will be available online. Printed bills are on their way and if you do not receive your bill before October 10th please contact the Sheriff’s office at 859/744-4390.

IF YOUR BILL SHOULD BE PAID BY A MORTGAGE COMPANY OR NEW OWNER, PLEASE FORWARD THE BILL TO THE RESPONSIBLE PARTY IMMEDIATELY.

Collection dates are as follows:

2% DiscountOctober 1 - November 1, 2009
Face AmountNovember 2 - December 31, 2009
5% Penalty + $5 late feeJanuary 1 - January 31, 2010
21% Penalty + $10 late & ad fees        February 1, 2010 - April 15, 2010

The Sheriff’s office is located in the lower level of the Governor James Clark Judicial Building with entrance off Broadway. The office will be open from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. This office honors USPS postmark (not private meters) on all payments received via US mail and payments received in the drop box off Broadway, in front of the Sheriff’s Office, at the top of the steps, beside the door.

The last day to receive a 2% discount is November 1, 2009. The last day to receive face amount is December 31, 2009. The Clark County Sheriff’s office will be closed on the following dates:

Acceptable forms of payment include: Personal check, certified check, money order, and cash. Please note the following changes with regard to personal checks. If your check, to pay tax bill(s), is returned by the bank for ANY reason, your tax bill(s) will be marked unpaid and an automatic charge of $50 will be added to your bill. Your bill will then be collectible and subject to any other fees based on the current collection period, i.e. discount, face, 5%, 21% or tax sale. If a return occurs we will only accept cash, money order or certified check.

When making payment using the drop box, please only pay by check, money order or certified check. PLEASE NO CASH IN THE DROP BOX. The mailing address is Clark County Sheriff, James Clark Judicial Center, 17 Cleveland Avenue, Winchester, KY 40391. Instructions and new payment options have been added to the website for your convenience. When mailing your payment or using the drop box, please include your copy of the tax bill or put the bill number or property address on your check. If you wish a paid receipt returned to you, please enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope and a receipt will be mailed to you or you may print a receipt from the website.
